Imaging Resource has tested a digital camera from Sony. The Sony camera is called Sony Cyber-shot WX5 digital camera and features over 12 megapixels in addition to a wide angle zoom lens that starts at a nice 24mm and ends up at 120mm.

Some key features for the Sony Cyber-shot WX5:
-12.2 megapixel image sensor
-5x optical zoom lens (24-120mm)
-Optical image stabilization
-2.8″ LCD screen
-ISO sensitivity 125-3200
-Full HD 1080/60i AVCHD movies
-3D Sweep Panorama

Imaging Resource ends up giving the Sony Cyber-shot WX5 a good review as the camera is pretty good compared to other cameras in this class. On the positive side we find aspects such as a bright zoom lens, optical image stabilization, good colors, autofocus works fine and the 3D Sweep Panorama mode is nice. There are a few points that hinders the WX5 from getting a top score and they are blurry shots under some conditions and a bit heavy noise reduction. Over the Cyber-shot WX5 is a very good compact, but Sony should work on the blurry shots cause be the image stabilization.

CNET UK has reviewed a slide-and-shoot faceplate camera from Sony. The camera is called Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX9 and features a 12.2 megapixels Exmor R back illuminated CMOS sensor in addition to a large 3.5″ LCD screen with touch abilities.

-4x optical zoom lens (25-100mm)
-3.5″ LCD touchscreen
-1080i AVCHD Movie Mode
-3D sweep panorama mode

CNET UK ends up giving the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX9 an overall score of 3.5 stars out of 5 possible. On the positive side we find aspects such as large touchscreen that is responsive, nice design and small side. But there are some negative sides with TX9 too like that the touchscreen controls can be hard for some to use, expensive compared to other cameras in the same class, the focus could be better and the reviewer found some pixel fringing.

Digital Camera Review has tested a HD camcorder from Sony. The Sony camcorder is called Sony Handycam HDR-XR350V and has a lot of internal memory combined with the ability to record 1920×1080 Full HD video.

-1/4″ 3.5MP back-illuminated “Exmor R” CMOS sensor
-1920×1080 Full HD Recording
-7 megapixel still images
-12x optical zoom lens
-Optical image stabilization

Digital Camera Review ends up giving the Sony Handycam HDR-XR350V a good review with a total score of 3.5 out of 5 possible stars. The Sony camcorder scores highest on features, almost as high on performance, image quality and video quality while scoring a bit lower on expandability, design and ease of use.
On the positive side the reviewer find the Handycam to be able to record good videos in all kinds of light, it has many good features and still images are of very good quality. On the negative side we find aspects such as a too small LCD screen, awkward menu system and there is no standard audio output.

Camera Labs has reviewed a budget digital camera from Sony. The camera is called Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W310 and features 12 megapixels along with 4x zoom and image stabilization.

Some key features for the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W310:
-12.1 megapixel image sensor
-4x optical zoom lens (28-112mm)
-2.7″ LCD screen
-Image stabilization
-Able to take 640 x 480 videos at 30 fps
-Uses Memory Stick Duo and SD memory cards

Camera Labs ends up giving the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W310 a “Recommended” rating with an overall score at 81%. The W310 scores highest on build quality and value for your money while scoring a little lower on image quality, handling and specifications. The reviewer finds the camera to have a few good points like useful zoom range, the smile shutter works and there is a dedicated movie and still photo switch. On the negative side we find areas such as no optical image stabilization, noise at higher ISO levels and there are few scene modes. It seems like the Sony camera is a good compact, but there are other compacts in the same class that can offer as much or more.
