Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W310 test / review by Camera Labs – cheap compact

Camera Labs has reviewed a budget digital camera from Sony. The camera is called Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W310 and features 12 megapixels along with 4x zoom and image stabilization.

Some key features for the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W310:
-12.1 megapixel image sensor
-4x optical zoom lens (28-112mm)
-2.7″ LCD screen
-Image stabilization
-Able to take 640 x 480 videos at 30 fps
-Uses Memory Stick Duo and SD memory cards

Camera Labs ends up giving the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W310 a “Recommended” rating with an overall score at 81%. The W310 scores highest on build quality and value for your money while scoring a little lower on image quality, handling and specifications. The reviewer finds the camera to have a few good points like useful zoom range, the smile shutter works and there is a dedicated movie and still photo switch. On the negative side we find areas such as no optical image stabilization, noise at higher ISO levels and there are few scene modes. It seems like the Sony camera is a good compact, but there are other compacts in the same class that can offer as much or more.

Digital Camera Review has tested the Nikon Coolpix S6000 digital camera. This Nikon camera has 14 megapixels along with the ability to record HD movies in 720p quality.

Some key features for the Nikon Coolpix S6000:
-14 megapixel image sensor
-7x optical zoom lens (28-196mm)
-Optical image stabilization
-2.7″ LCD screen
-720p HD movie recording at 30fps
-HDMI output

Digital Camera Review ends up giving the S6000 an overall score of 4 out of 5 possible stars. On the positive side the reviewer finds the zoom range to be useful, the camera body is of good quality and Nikon is able to produce pictures with good colors. On the negative side we find aspects such as soft images, purple fringing and a bit of overexposure. The Nikon camera scores highest on performance, almost as high on image quality, video quality, ease of use and design while scoring a little lower on features. The Nikon S6000 is very good and small compact camera which should fit as a travel camera.

General Electric GE X5 Pro Series digital camera test / review by About.com

About.com has reviewed a digital camera from General Electrics. The camera is called GE X5 and sports a 15x optical zoom lens at a very low price tag.

Some key features for the GE X5 Pro Series:
-14 megapixel image sensor
-15x optical zoom lens (27-405mm)
-2.7″ LCD screen
-Auto brightness
-Able to record videos with 640×480 resolution at 30 fps
-Uses SD/SDHC memory cards

About.com ends up giving the X5 a pretty poor review with a rating of 2 out of 5 possible stars. On the positive side we find the GE camera to have a low price when you look at what kind of zoom range you get. You can also get good pictures if there are good conditions, but there are quite a bit of negative sides like the image quality being very inconsistent, shutter lag, the AA-batteries makes the camera heavy and the flash does not pop-up automatically.

Fujifilm FinePix JZ300 super-zoom digital camera test / review by Camera Labs

Camera Labs has reviewed a super-zoom camera from Fujifilm. The camera is called Fujifilm FinePix JZ300 and has a useful zoom range from 28mm to 280mm making it a choice for travel photographers.

-10x optical zoom lens (28-280mm)
-Dual image stabilization
-2.7″ LCD screen
-Record movies in HD 720p quality
-Face Detection
-Automatic Red-eye Removal

Camera Labs ends up giving the Fujifilm FinePix JZ300 a “Recommended” rating with a total score at 83%. The JZ300 scores highest on build quality, a little lower on value for your money and specifications while scoring lowest on image quality and handling. The reviewer likes that you can record HD video, the useful zoom range and the fast auto focus. On the negative side we find a poor flash, hard to see the LCD screen in bright light and limited ability to take photos at long exposures.
