Pentax X70

Photography Blog has reviewed the first super-zoom digital camera from Pentax. The camera is called Pentax X70 has an impressive 24x optical zoom and a big 12 megapixel sensor. It remains to be seen if the X70 can produce pictures of good quality.

-Super Macro Mode for getting as close as 1 cm

Photography Blog ends up giving the Pentax X70 a “Recommended” 4 out 5 stars rating. The camera scores highest on design and features while scoring a bit lower on image quality and ease of use. Like most super-zooms you have to expect a few downsides when you get the massive zoom range and it is the same with the Pentax X70.

Canon PowerShot D10

Dpreview has tested five different compact cameras that are waterproof and can be used under water. The cameras tested are Canon PowerShot D10, Fuji FinePix Z33WP, Olympus Stylus Tough 8000 (known as mju Tough 8000 in Europe), Olympus Stylus Tough 6000 (known as mju Tough 6000 in Europe) and Pentax Optio W60.

As image quality is really the most important factor when it comes to cameras Dpreview think that the Canon PowerShot D10 and Pentax Optio W60 are the best choices.
The Canon PowerShot D10 even gets a highly recommended rating from Dpreview as the camera produces the best pictures and has the best features.

Pentax K-7

Photography Blog has reviewed the latest DSLR camera from Pentax, the Pentax K-7. This exciting new DSLR has a lot of new features like environmental sealing and HD video recording.

Some key features for the Pentax K-7:
-14.6 megapixel sensor
-environmental sealing
-720p HD video
-top shutter speed 1/8000 second
-3.0″ 920,000 dot LCD screen
-ISO sensitivity from 100 to 6400

Photography Blog ends up giving the Pentax K-7 a “Highly Recommended” rating as the camera is able to take pictures of high quality and has a lot of nice features. One downside is a bit of noise over ISO level 400, but Photography Blog reviewed a preproduction copy of the camera so the noise might be improved in the final release.
Seems like an excellent choice for more serious photographers.

Pentax X70

Digital Camera Review has reviewed the ultrazoom compact digital camera Pentax X70. This Pentax camera features a 24x optical zoom lens and 12 megapixels.

-12 megapixel sensor
-2.7″ LCD screen
-triple shake reduction
-Super Macro Mode for getting as close as 1 cm
-HD video at 1280×720 at 15 frames per second

Digital Camera Review ends up giving the Pentax X70 a pretty good review as you get a lot of zoom range for the money. The camera is able to compete well with other ultrazoom cameras, can produce pictures of good quality and is good in low light situations. The only downsides are poor HD video quality, a bit slow auto focus and no RAW file support.
Overall the X70 seems like a fine compact camera if you are not interested in investing in a DSLR camera.
