Lets Go Digital has reviewed the Olympus Mju 9000 (also known as Stylus-9000) compact digital camera. This Olympus camera feature 12 megapixels and 10x optical zoom.

Some key features for the Olympus Stylus-9000 / Mju 9000:
-12 megapixel sensor
-10x optical zoom lens (28-280mm)
-2.7″ LCD screen
-Dual image stabilization

Lets Go Digital ends up giving the Mju 9000 a “Good” 72 rating. It gets an average score because there are many similar cameras on the marked and the Mju 9000 scores moderately compared to them. There is visible noise from ISO 200 and there is some lens blur. On the positive side the camera scores high on design.

Imaging Resource has reviewed the Olympus E-P1 digital camera. The E-P1 is the first Micro Four Thirds camera from Olympus so it will be interesting to see what the reviewer thinks about it. As I’m interested in getting a smaller camera than my current DSLR I got my eyes on the Olympus E-P1.

Some key features for the Olympus E-P1:
-12.3 megapixel image sensor
-TruePic V image processor
-in-body image stabilization
-4.8 x 2.8 x 1.4″ dimensions
-weighs 11.8 ounces
-3.0″ LCD display with 230,000 dots of resolution
-ISO sensitivity from 100 to 6400
-shutter speeds 2 – 1/4000 second (also bulb mode)
-HD Movie with stereo sound
-SD/SDHC memory card support

Imaging Resource ends up giving the Olympus E-P1 a very good review as the camera is very compact and is able to produce pictures of high quality (even at higher ISO levels). The EP-1 even receive a “Dave’s Pick” so this seem like a safe choice for most photographers. The only downsides are that LCD screen could have higher resolution and the auto focus speed is a bit slower compared to other Micro Four Thirds cameras.

Olympus Zuiko Digital 12-60mm

The German testing website Photozone has tested the Olympus Zuiko Digital 12-60mm f/2.8-4 ED SWD lens. This Olympus lens is a part of the “pro” class which means environment sealing, higher build quality and good optical abilities.

Photozone gives the Olympus Zuiko Digital 12-60mm f/2.8-4 ED SWD a “Highly Recommended” rating as the lens produces very sharp and contrasty images. For a standard zoom lens there are little vignetting, chromatic aberrations and distortions. The build quality is very good and so is the autofocus.
Seems like a fine lens for Olympus photographers.

Olympus has announced new firmware for their Olympus E-P1 camera and M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 14-42mm and M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm lenses. Firmware version 1.1 improves operation when using C-AF (continuous AF) for the camera and AF operation for the lenses. As there has been a bit complaining about the autofocus speeds for the E-P1 camera this comes as a welcomes move from Olympus.

You can download firmware version 1.1 from Olympus Japan.
