Ricoh CX2

Photography Blog has reviewed a compact superzoom camera from Ricoh called Ricoh CX2. In addition to having 10.x zoom the camera is also capable of shooting at 5fps at full resolution. Pretty impressive!

-9 megapixel image sensor
-5fps at full resolution
-10.7x optical zoom lens (28-300mm)
-3″ LCD screen
-Compact body only 29.4mm thick

Photography Blog ends up giving the Ricoh CX2 a “Highly Recommended” 4.5 out of 5 points score. The reviewer like that you get such a long zoom range in a compact body. The CX2 is also capable of producing pictures with improved dynamic range with its DR-mode and image quality overall has been improved compared to the CX1. The only downside is no HD-video and if you are a CX1 owner you might feel a bit left out since Ricoh upgraded the CX-series so fast.

Canon PowerShot S90

CNET UK is fast becoming a nice reviewing site for me. Their latest camera review is of the Canon PowerShot S90 compact digital camera that is supposed to be a high-end compact.

Some key features for the Canon PowerShot S90:
-10 megapixel image sensor
-3.8x optical zoom (equivalent to 28-105mm) bright f/2.0 lens
-3″ LCD screen
-Optical image stabilization
-ISO sensitivity up to 12,800

CNET UK ends up giving the Canon PowerShot S90 a very good 9.1 out of 10 rating. They really like the design of the camera and it also takes pictures of excellent quality. The S90 also has good lens control and ability to record RAW-files. The only downside is no hi-def video and the rear controller could have been designed better.

Canon PowerShot G11

Photography Blog has reviewed the exciting new compact camera from Canon, the Canon PowerShot G11. I find the G11 exciting because Canon has lowered the amount of pixels on the image sensor compared to the G10. Let us hope this move will improve image quality.

-5x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 28-140mm)
-Optical image stabilization
-RAW + JPEG shooting

Photography Blog ends up giving the Canon PowerShot G11 a “Highly Recommended” 4.5 out of 5 stars rating. It gets a good rating because the camera is able to produce very good pictures and has a lot of nice features. The only downside is that you can not use other lenses which you can on the new Olympus Pen 1 and Panasonic GF1.

Pentax Optio P80

Trusted Reviews has tested the Pentax Optio P80 digital compact camera. This Pentax camera feature a 4x optical zoom lens and a 12.1 megapixel image sensor, and has an ultra-compact design.

-12.1 megapixel image sensor

-Image stabilization system
-Widescreen HD movie recording at 30fps

Trusted Reviews ends up giving the Optio P80 an overall score of eight out of ten points. The Pentax camera scores higest on build quality and value while scoring lowest on image quality as Pentax could have done a better job with the quality of the pictures that this camera produces.
