CNET UK has reviewed a new digital camera from Nikon. The camera is called Nikon Coolpix P7000 and features a large image sensor (1/1.7-inch) so it seems Nikon this time has concentrated on image quality. Let us hear what the reviewer thinks about this Nikon compact.

-10.1 megapixel, large 1/1.7-inch CCD image sensor
-7.1x optical zoom lens (28-200mm)
-Image stabilization
-3″ LCD screen
-HD movie recording (720p)
-ISO up to 6400
-Uses SD and SDHC memory cards

CNET UK ends up giving the Nikon Coolpix P7000 a total score of 4 out of 5 possible stars. On the positive side we find aspects such as very good build quality, the design resembles a DSLR, dedicated buttons for several functions and the image quality is good. On the negative side there are a few issues like a hefty price tag, bulky design and it is not the easiest camera to use. Overall the P7000 seems like a very good compact camera with a few shortcomings.

Photography Blog has posted a review of Samsung digital camera called Samsung WB2000 (or Samsung TL350 in some markets). This Samsung camera is targeted at more serious photographer with its bigger image sensor, full manual control and wide angle zoom lens.

Some key features for the Samsung WB2000 / Samsung TL350:
-10 megapixel 1/2.4-inch high-speed Back Side Illuminated CMOS image sensor
-3.0″ AMOLED screen
-5x optical zoom lens (24-120mm)
-Dual image stabilization
-ISO sensitivity 80-3200
-Full HD Movie Mode
-Full manual control

Photography Blog ends up giving the Samsung WB2000 a “Highly Recommend” rating with 4.5 out of 5 possible stars. The Samsung camera scores highest on image quality, features and ease of use and a little lower on value for your money and design. The WB2000 is a very good camera crammed with great specs that should fit most photographers. The only downsides are a few buttons that seems out of place, low battery life and menu system has some weird aspects.

Ricoh CX4 test / review by CNET UK – better image stabilization

CNET UK has reviewed a new compact digital camera from Ricoh. The camera is called Ricoh CX4 and features a back-illuminated sensor and 10.7x optical zoom. One major difference from the CX4 is that this Ricoh camera has improved image stabilization.

-10 megapixel back-illuminated image sensor
-10.7x optical zoom lens (28-300mm)
-Optical image stabilization
-3″ LCD screen
-720p HD video recording
-Autofocus system automatically tracks the subject

CNET UK ends up giving the Ricoh CX4 an overall score of 3.5 stars out of 5 possible. On the positive side we find aspects such as an useful zoom range, solid build, good value for your money and the LCD screen is great. There are a few negative sides that keeps the camera from getting a top score like noisy zoom operation, no zoom in movie mode, little or no hand grip and the reviewer does not like the way the camera looks. The CX4 is a pretty good camera, but has some quirks.

About.com has reviewed a waterproof camera from Fujifilm. The digital camera is called Fujifilm FinePix XP10 and is able to take pictures down to depths of 3 meters. The Fujifilm camera is able to handle shocks and cold temperatures.

-12 megapixel image sensor
-5x optical zoom lens
-2.7″ LCD screen
-Waterproof up to 3 meters
-Shockproof up to 1 meter
-Freezeproof to – 10 degrees

About.com ends up giving the Fujifilm FinePix XP10 camera a very good review with an overall score of 4.5 stars out of 5 possible. On the positive side the reviewer thinks the camera from Fujifilm have a good look, the price tag is nice, the rugged features are useful and the camera is easy to use. There are a couple of negative points such as hard to see the content on the LCD screen in bright sunlight, shutter lag when taking indoor photos and too small buttons. Overall the XP10 seems like a good rugged camera if you are not interested in spending a lot of money.
