Imaging Resource has reviewed the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS1 compact digital camera. This a small pocket-able camera with a long 12x zoom lens that seems like an interesting carry around camera.

Some key features for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS1:
-10.1 megapixel sensor
-12x optical zoom (25 – 300mm)
-2.7″ LCD screen
-Optical image stabilization
-Face detection

Imaging Resource ends up giving the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS1 a “Dave’s Pick” award as the camera has a very usable zoom range (25 – 300mm), the optical image stabilization works well, high FPS and it is able to produce pictures of good quality. One downside is a bit soft corners in pictures taken at the wide side of the zoom range and some ISO noise.

CNET UK has reviewed the Olympus mju TOUGH-6010 digital compact camera. This rugged Olympus camera can handle depths down to 3 meters and is also shockproof in addition to having the so-called Art filters.

Some key features for the Olympus mju TOUGH-6010:
-12 megapixel sensor
-3.6x optical zoom lens (28-102mm)
-2.7″ LCD screen with Tap Control
-image stabilization
-magic filters
-waterproof down to 3 meters
-shockproof up to 1.5 meters
-freeze proof to -10 degrees Celsius

CNET UK ends up giving the Olympus mju TOUGH-6010 a mediocre 6.1 out of 10 score. The reason for this score is as the lens produces unsharp pictures at the edges. The noise reduction software from Olympus is a bit overactive making the pictures smothered. On the positive side the reviewer likes the design of the camera and the zoom range is useful.
