Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500

DIWA Labs has tested the new compact camera from Panasonic, the Lumix DMC-FX500, that features a 5x (25-125mm equivalent) ultra-wide optical zoom lens from Leica.

DIWA Labs says that the camera gives very good image quality even at widest angle. There is some color fringing in the corners at the widest angles, but overall this seems like an excellent compact camera from Panasonic if you are interested in wide angle photography.

Some key features for the Lumix DMC-FX500:
-10.1 million effective pixels
-5x optical zoom Leica lens (35mm film camera equivalent: 25-125mm)
-3.0-inch LCD with touch screen
-Image stabilization
-Auto focus (AF) tracking
-Intelligent auto mode

Fujifilm FinePix J10

PC Magazine has reviewed a slim compact camera from Fujifilm, the FinePix J10.
Some key features for the Fujifilm FinePix J10:
-8.2 megapixel sensor
-2.5″ LCD screen
-3x optical Fujinon zoom lens (38-113mm equivalent)
-Image stabilization

PC Magazine ends up giving the Fujifilm camera an average rating as the the FinePix J10 is a camera for beginners in the world of photography. The camera was able to take pretty good pictures when there is daylight, but is not performing very well at ISO settings over 400. There is also some barrel distortion on wide-angle shots.
Overall this seems like a very average camera with a low price tag.

Pentax Optio Z10

Imaging Resource has reviewed the Pentax Optio Z10 compact digital camera.
Some key features for the Pentax Optio Z10:
-7x optical zoom (38-266mm equivalent)
-8 megapixel sensor
-2.5″ LCD screen with 230,000 pixels
-Face detection
-Digital shake reduction (image stabilization)

Imaging Resource ends up giving the compact camera a an average verdict as the Pentax Optio Z10 is able to produce pretty good printed pictures, but the picture quality could be better when you zoom in on the pictures on PC screen.
Overall this seems like a very average digital camera.

Canon Digital IXUS 90 IS

LetsGoDigital has reviewed the popular Canon Digital IXUS 90 IS (known as Canon PowerShot SD790 IS in US) compact digital camera.
Some key features for the Canon IXUS 90 IS/PowerShot SD790 IS:
-10 megapixel sensor
-3x optical zoom lens (35-105mm equivalent)
-3.0” LCD screen
-Advanced face detection
-Optical viewfinder

LetsGoDigital ends up giving the compact camera a very good review as the IXUS 90 IS is able to produce pictures of high quality and the camera body got an excellent design.
The only downside is the lack of wide angle as the lens is only 35mm at the widest part of the range.
Apart from that it seems like Canon has produced another excellent compact camera.
