Dpreview tests / reviews waterproof underwater cameras – Canon PowerShot D10 wins

Dpreview has tested five different compact cameras that are waterproof and can be used under water. The cameras tested are Canon PowerShot D10, Fuji FinePix Z33WP, Olympus Stylus Tough 8000 (known as mju Tough 8000 in Europe), Olympus Stylus Tough 6000 (known as mju Tough 6000 in Europe) and Pentax Optio W60.

As image quality is really the most important factor when it comes to cameras Dpreview think that the Canon PowerShot D10 and Pentax Optio W60 are the best choices.
The Canon PowerShot D10 even gets a highly recommended rating from Dpreview as the camera produces the best pictures and has the best features.

Photography Blog has reviewed the Casio EX-Z1 compact camera (also known as Casio EX-S5). This camera is very slim and has a stylish design.

Some key features for the Casio EX-Z1:
-10 megapixel image sensor
-3x optical zoom lens (35.5-106.5mm)
-2.7″ LCD screen
-electronic anti-shake
-face detection
-23 Best Shot scene modes

Photography Blog ends up giving the Casio EX-Z1 camera a “Recommended” rating as you get a lot of features in this budget camera. The image quality is acceptable, but you can get better if you purchase a more expensive camera. Overall this seems like a very good budget camera with a nice design.

Photography Blog has reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T90 compact camera. This camera has a very nice and slim design that might fit photographers that are looking for an ultra compact camera.

Some key features for the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T90:

-4x optical zoom (35-140mm)
-optical image stabilization
-3″ LCD touchscreen
-face and smile detection
-up to ISO 3200
-1280×720 pixel 720p HD movie recording

Photography Blod ends up giving the Sony camera an “Above average” rating as the camera does not produce the best pictures on the marked and it is pretty expensive for a camera in this class. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T90 does has some nice features and have a very stylish design.

Sigma DP2 firmware version 1.02 released – improves autofocus and live view

Sigma has released new firmware for their Sigma DP2 compact camera with a large Foveon sensor. Firmware version 1.02 improves the autofocus and makes it possible to access magnified live view with a button press in manual focus mode.

Some key features for the Sigma DP2:

-2.5″ LCD screen
-41mm f/2.8 lens
-ISO sensitivity from 50 to 1600
-weight 260 grams
