Canon EOS 50D

The reputable testing website DIWA Labs has tested the successor to the popular DSLR camera Canon EOS 40D, the Canon EOS 50D. They tested the 50D with the new zoom lens, the Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens.

Some key features for the Canon EOS 50D camera:
-15,1 megapixel sensor
-3″ LCD screen with 920,000 dots
-ISO sensitivity 100-3200
-Magnesium body

Digitalcamerareview.com has posted some predictions on their website about they think will happen at International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2009 in a couple of weeks in Las Vegas, USA. The main prediction is that due to the world economics there will be less new offerings this year at CES. This means most camera makers will concentrate on promoting their exciting line up instead of introducing new cameras.
The exceptions might be Olympus and Kodak that is known to release new products during the CES instead of during PMA where many of the other camera makers introduce their new cameras.

Digitalcamerareview.com also speculate that Samsung will have something up their sleeve with maybe a new Full Frame sensor and / or a new micro system that will compete with micro Four Thirds.

Nikon D90

DIWA Labs has tested the succors to the Nikon D80 DSLR camera, the Nikon D90. They have tested the DSLR camera with two Nikkor lenses, the AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR and the AF-S DX Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED VR. This is the first DSLR camera that has a movie mode so it interesting to see if the D90 is worth buying if one are interesting in capturing video.

-12.3 megapixel sensor
-3″ high resolution LCD screen
-HD movie mode
-ISO sensitivity 200 to 3200
-4.5 frames-per-second
-11-point auto focus system

Olympus Mju 1050 SW

Camera Labs has reviewed the Olympus mju 1050 SW (known as Stylus 1050 SW in North America) compact camera. The camera can handle very tough conditions such as falls and underwater photography.

Some key features for the Olympus mju 1050 SW / Stylus 1050 SW:
-10.1 megapixel sensor
-Waterproof down to 3m
-Freezeproof of -10 degrees C
-Shockproof to 1.5m
-3x optical zoom lens (38-114 mm)

Camera Labs ends up giving the Olympus mju 1050 SW a 82% rating due to that is able to take pretty good pictures and as the camera promises it is able to take pictures under very tough conditions. The only downsides are a bit short zoom range, no optical or sensor-shift stabilization and some vignetting/softness in the corners. The Olympus mju 1050 SW seems like a very capable camera if you want to take underwater pictures, but a strong competitor to the Olympus camera is the Pentax Optio W60 that is some cases have better specifications.
