Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8

Digital Camera Review ends up giving the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 a pretty good review as the reviewer find the camera to have very good autofocus and shutter lag. Since the camera also has good image quality it seems like a good choice. The only downside is a lot of noise in pictures taken at ISO 400 and up.

Canon Digital IXUS 200 IS

Photography Blog has tested the Canon Digital IXUS 200 IS digital compact camera (also known as Canon PowerShot SD980 IS Digital ELPH in some markets). This Canon compact is the first IXUS / ELPH camera with touchscreen, and also has 5x optical zoom and HD video recording capability.

-3″ LCD touchscreen
-720p HD video recording

Photography Blog ends up giving the Canon Digital IXUS 200 IS an “Above Rating” as the reviewer thinks the price tag is too high compared to what you get. The Canon camera scores highest on design and ease of use while scoring lower on image quality and value for your money. It is nice to see that Canon have implemented touchscreens in their new cameras, but they should try harder with the next camera.

Kodak Zi8

CNET UK has tested the Kodak Zi8 pocket camcorder. This Kodak camcorder has a very low price tag considering that it is able to record high definition video. It remains to see what the reviewer think about the video quality.

CNET UK ends up giving the Kodak Zi8 pocket camcorder a “Very Good” 7.5 rating as it produces videos of pretty good quality when consider the low price tag. It is also very easy to use and has small and light design. There are some shortcomings like poor microphone and no optical zoom.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX1

Imaging Resource has reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX1 compact camera. This Sony camera is one of the first to feature a a back-illuminated ‘Exmor R’ CMOS image sensor so it will be good to see how the image quality is.

-10.1 megapixel image sensor
-4x optical zoom lens (35-140mm)
-3″ LCD screen
-ISO sensitivity 125-3200

Imaging Resource ends up giving the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX1 a “Dave’s Pick award” as the increased light sensitivity from the new image sensor improves the image quality. It also has a responsive touch screen and has many other useful features. The DSC-TX1 seems like a very nice camera at about $380.
